Veedersburg Sept 18, 1943 -- Clinton Hesler, oldest dairy herd inspector in the US and a three-time member of the Indiana General Assembly, died Saturday morning at the Wabash Valley sanitarium in Lafayette at the age of 87.  Born Nov 18, 1855 on a farm near Veedersburg, the son of James and Amanda Furr Hesler, he was married Oct 1, 1879 to Laurel Youngblood who preceded him in death several years ago.  Mr. Hesler was a charter member of the Liberty Christian Church and during the early part of his life had devoted most of his time to farming. For the past 20 years he had served as dairy herd supervisor in southern Indiana.  He was active in Republican party circles. Mr. Hesler also was a former member of the Fountain County counsil and a former County Commissioner.  Surviving are two sons, Dr. Lex Hesler, Dean of the Graduate School of the University of Tenn; and Alfred Hesler Fountain Co. Agent; a brother, Benton of Crawfordsville; and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cook and Mrs. Glenn Williams of Veedersburg and Mrs. Dan Burgner of Covington. The body was taken to the J. Fred Parham funeral home in Veedersburg and was taken to the home of the son, Alfred, Sunday afternoon.  Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the New Liberty Christian Church, the Rev OW McGaughey officiating.
